EHPM

T
he European Federation of Associations of Health Product Manufacturers (EHPM) represents specialist health product manufacturers in Europe. It works towards developing an appropriate regulatory framework throughout the EU for its members' products.

These products can include a number of substances such as herbal preparations, natural and traditional remedies, functional foods, natural cosmetics and food supplements. And as the idea of taking better care of oneself is being promoted, the nutritional supplement industry continues to grow dramatically.

Overwhelming evidence now supports the beneficial effects of certain dietary supplements - concentrates of important nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino and fatty acids and other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect - in various life stages. Food supplements are generally sold as:
• capsules
• tablets
• powders
• liquids

Their role has stirred interest from governments keen to find ways of reducing healthcare costs, and with consumers constantly striving to maintain their optimum nutrient intake, the spotlight is clearly focussed on food supplements.
Development is welcomed, and EHPM believes that appropriate regulation under food law will ensure the free movement of these products across Europe.
